The Issue:
WHY AAPI MILLENNIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IS IMPORTANT?
With the highest average household income and being the fastest-growing major racial group in America, AAPI businesses are uniquely positioned to create goods and services catered to that AAPI segment of the population.
- AAPI's are very entrepreneurial and historically have higher rate of opening businesses than the general population.
- In particular, AAPI’s have the highest rate of millennial entrepreneurship with 16% of the AAPI segment being under 35 versus 12% for the general population.
- Besides goods and services, AAPI millennials will be increasingly having to manage and hire diverse workforces. By 2043, people of color will become a majority in America.
As millennials seek alternative choices to their foods, services, and entertainment, AAPI entrepreneurs will be uniquely positioned to capitalize on this shifting consumer trend.
The Solution:
How do we create more leaders? For AAPI entrepreneurs that challenge can be traced back to Asian cultural upbringing causing us to have to unlearn habits and skills that are not traditionally valued in our culture. Cultural upbringing amplifies the challenges of entrepreneurship because research shows that social skills/teamwork skills become more important as organizations scale because management spends more and more time on people issues as a company grows.
ACE NextGen builds an ecosystem for millennial AAPI entrepreneurs to develop and practice their leadership and businesses knowledge/skills through:
1) Networking Events
2) Peer to Peer Mentorship Programming through Inner Circles, Incubator, Level Up, Women's Initiative, and Allyship
