The Issue:

The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) seeks to build leadership among Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women and girls to equip them to organize their communities to push for systemic change. Through our training programs, we will provide AAPI women and girls with training in areas such as public speaking, community outreach, issue-based campaign strategy, holding legislative meetings, and writing op-eds. AAPI women who go through this leadership development programming will be equipped to take strategic action organizing for policy changes that would benefit our communities and address issues ranging from immigrant access to healthcare to voting rights. This funding would allow us to coordinate and scale our trainings nationally and make it accessible in multiple languages.

The Solution:

NAPAWF seeks to build leadership among AAPI women to equip them to organize their communities to push for systemic change. Through our leadership development, AAPI women will gain skills such as campaign strategy, public speaking, op-ed writing, community outreach, and holding meetings with policymakers, as well as knowledge in areas such as intersectionality, reproductive justice, systemic racism, and the “model minority” myth. They will be equipped to take strategic action organizing for policy changes to address issues ranging from immigrant access to healthcare, to paid sick leave, to language barriers in voting. Participants receive opportunities to apply these skills in the real world through NAPAWF’s issue-based campaigns. Afterward, AAPI women are ready to lead campaigns on the issues that affect their lives and work toward concrete policy wins. We will offer our flagship Reproductive Justice Leadership Institute, a six-month program immersing participants in organizing skills, as well as standalone workshops.
