Parivar Bay Area
Parivar Bay Area is America’s only Transgender-led and Transgender-centering organization led by Global South Asian Transgender individuals with the intent of cultivating a community of light, love, and acceptance. We strive to serve as an organization for Transgender economic justice, Health care equity, Intersectional unity, social inclusion, and LGBTQIA+ Immigration Equity centering the Global South Trans Immigrants and Asylees and uplifting the culturally diverse Hijrah, Kinnar, Thirunangai, Khwaja Sira and all Transgender identities of the South Asian Diaspora.
About the Organization:
$100,000 - $500,000
Intersectionality as a concept has crept into the public consciousness, but the experience of existing at intersections of marginalization has remained largely the same – systemic, material, and sociocultural stigma means that our community of Global South-originating Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, and Intersex (TGNCI) Asian and Pacific Islanders (API) are categorized and pushed into limiting categories of race, gender, and experience. Are you Queer, or are you API? Are you an immigrant, or are you Trans? Public and private aid, activist spaces, and even the nonprofit world often want simple answers that don’t square with the lived experiences of embodying multiple marginalized identities. At Parivar Bay Area, a nonprofit co-founded by an immigrant Transgender woman of South Asian experience, Anjali Rimi, we are constantly grappling with the question of how to be in community and be legible to society at the same time. The API diaspora struggles with Transphobia, Homophobia and overall lack of intersectional unity. Despite sharing many of the same struggles, within the community we are divided by race, language, caste, and religion, not to mention class and sexuality.
We build immigration justice centering Transgender Hijrah Non-Binary immigrants, drive accountability for Transgender Queer Immigrant protections & bring Public Advocacy & Education to better the belonging and resettling of immigrants to America. We develop equity in class, diverse programs, and a portfolio that reflects our intersectional communities and leverages our engagements and templates to achieve the greatest equity and visibility for underrepresented Transgender, Hijrah, Kinnar, Intersex, Non-Binary, and Queer folx in the South Asian diaspora and beyond. We advocate for Asian Pacific Islanders' equity and lead partnerships to fight Anti-Asian hate along with dismantling racism, cultural violence, anti-Blackness, xenophobia, gender stereotypes, and immigration inequality. We dedicate our work to building Allyships amongst the South Asian diaspora that betters Transgender Hijrah Queer inclusion and equity. We have four areas of focus for our programs: Transgender Intersectional Unity Transgender Resettlement Resourcing Transgender centering Cultural Events DEI Cultural Competency Trainings Advocacy through Arts Global South Transgender Immigrant Support Transgender Immigrant Symposiums TGNCI Immersion case support Transgender Immigrant Coalition Transgender Artist Programs Global TGNCI Entreprenuership Transgender Entrepreneurship Livelihood Projects-SF Transgender Skill Building Support Transgender Immigrant Literacy TGNCI Capacity Building Transgender Emerging Leadership Program Peer Support Groups and spaces Transgender Immigrant Data Equity Transgender Immigrant Programs
