The Issue:

In order to reverse decades of under-representation and marginalization, we must reverse disenfranchisement; the path to civic recognition is the vote! Therefore, we are focused on continuing our voter registration efforts every year, not just during presidential election cycles. However, our communities are geographically scattered and it is difficult to reach our smaller populations or communities outside of religious or cultural events and organizations. We will continue to engage our community in civics with education and engagement. South Asians often feel removed from the voting process, beyond being a civic duty. They have rarely been approached by elected officials or candidates. As the fastest growing minority in Texas, its time to shed light on the importance of the South Asian vote. We have self funded over the last few years, created an army of volunteers, however with proper funding we can affect change dramatically

The Solution:

Our solution is to develop and execute a system that consistently and continually educates and engages South Asians year over year. We know South Asians are natural organizers who have spent several decades creating their own structures to live into the American Dream in a country that did not always accept them. We plan to tap into that same power and harness it for civic empowerment of our people.
Each community-based structure develops a strategy that maximizes their efforts in 4 key areas
  • Increase Voter Registrations: Execute drives, neighborhood canvassing and mail and electronic voter registration campaigns.
  • Educate: provide access to information about the political process at community events, online webinars / seminars and through candidate forums.
  • Increase Civic Participation: ensure South Asians have a voice when decisions are being made about them, such as healthcare and redistricting.
Increase Voter Turnout: ensure every voter has what they need to vote
