At Spill the Tea Cafe, we're on a mission to save lives. We provide a safe, inclusive space for at-risk youth to receive high quality mental health services, including individual & group therapy sessions, and a place to hang out with kids who may be going through similar challenges. Our founder, a trans teenager who experienced bullying, created this clinic to decrease the alarming rate of suicide among at-risk youth in Hawaii. But we can't do it alone. We need your help. You can make a difference in three ways: by volunteering your time or skills, by sponsoring a teen's therapy sessions, or by donating snacks and art supplies. With your support, we can create a community where mental health is prioritized and at-risk youth have the resources they need to thrive. Join us in our mission to save lives and support Spill the Tea Cafe today!

The Issue:

As a parent of a trans youth and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have seen firsthand the devastating impact of the mental health crisis in our state. Suicide was the leading cause of death for youth in Hawaii-Specifically Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders between the ages of fifteen to twenty-four in 2019, These youth are three times less likely to receive mental health treatment compared to their white counterparts in our state (SAMSHA, 2019). According to the 2018 DOH sexual Minority report, ½ of all trans youth in hawaii attempted suicide in the past year. Trans youth are 7x more likely than cisgender youth to attempt suicide onour state (DOH, 2019). This is not due to the common misperception that these kids are “troubled,” the research is CLEAR that this is due to the discrimination these kids face in their own home, school, church, sports, and community. We are committed to solving this problem.

The Solution:

Our founder, a trans teenager who experienced bullying, created Spill the Tea Cafe to decrease the alarming rate of suicide among at-risk youth in Hawaii. We wanted to create a safe, inclusive space for at-risk youth to receive free mental health services, including individual & group therapy sessions, and a place to hang out with kids who may be going through similar challenges. We understand teens are particularly vulnerable to mental health challenges due to the unique social, emotional, and developmental challenges they face. STTC is a specialized healthcare facility that aims to provide comprehensive and evidence-based treatment and support to adolescents struggling with mental health issues. The goal of STTC is to promote the mental health and well-being of adolescents by providing accessible, compassionate, and personalized care. At STTC, adolescents may receive a range of services, including individual and group therapy, mentorship, care coordination, and psychoeducation, to address their specific needs and preferences. We also offer support to families and caregivers, as well as community resources and referrals, to help adolescents and their loved ones navigate the challenges of mental health and achieve lasting recovery and resilience. By addressing the unique needs of pre-teens, teens, LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent keiki and providing a supportive environment for their healing and growth, STTC helps teens build the skills and resilience they need to thrive and reach their full potential.
